The World of William Joyce features the work of one of the most dynamic and talented picture book artists working today. William Joyce has won two Emmys for his popular children’s show that aired on the Disney Channel, William Joyce’s Rolie Polie Olie, an animated series based on his Rolie Polie Olie picture books. In addition, his award-winning picture book “George Shrinks” has been made into a cartoon series on PBS and a feature film, Meet the Robinsons, based on his book “A Day with Wilbur Robinson” was released in 2007. Joyce works in a variety of media, including watercolor, oil, acrylic, pen and ink, graphite, colored pencil and computer graphics. The World of William Joyce includes over 60 works created for such popular children’s books as the Rolie Polie Olie series, Dinosaur Bob and His Adventures with the Family Lazardo, George Shrinks, Santa Calls, The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs, Bently & egg and A Day with Wilbur Robinson.

The exhibition also includes an inviting reading area where children and families can discover the stories behind the colorful illustrations. The World of William Joyce is organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, Abilene, Texas.

The eighth in a series of exhibitions drawn from the Norma Canelas and William D. Roth Collection of African Art, this exhibition will feature the many cloth and textile arts traditions of various regions of the African continent.  Masterful examples of these traditions include colorful Kente cloth of West Africa, beautifully beaded aprons of the Kirdi in Cameroon, appliquéed and embroidered flags of the Fante in Ghana, and beaded animal skins of the San people of South Africa.

Spanning three centuries, these paintings reflect the many forces that have shaped American art from the Colonial period to the early 20th century, including Neoclassicism, Impressionism and Modernism. Among the artists represented in this exhibition are Benjamin West, Thomas Moran, Rembrandt Peale, John Henry Twachtman and Carl Wuermer.

This exhibition features paintings by George Inness, John Singer Sargent, Georgia O’Keeffe, William Harnett, Alfred Bricher, William Merritt Chase and Frank Weston Benson, among others. Also featured is the recent acquisition The Sun Vow, 1901, a sculpture by Hermon A. MacNeil. This exhibition also highlights the acquisitions made possible by the Friends of American Art, which supports the acquisition of traditional American art for the Museum.

Aztec to Zapotec: Selections from the Ancient Americas Collection

Aztec to Zapotec: Selections from the Ancient Americas Collection features more than 180 works made prior to the arrival of Christopher Columbus and the Europeans during the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Representing a time period of more than 3,000 years, the exhibition drawn from the Museum’s Art of the Ancient Americas Collection gives a rare glimpse into the life and culture of numerous civilizations from the North, Central and South American regions including the Aztec, Maya, Moche, Nasca, Inca and Zapotec, with significant ancient works of gold, silver, jade, ceramic, shell and wood.
