Dawn Roe: The Tree Alone
Dawn Roe: The Tree Alone
Dawn Roe’s work is concerned with the associations that occur when we encounter sites or scenes that reference our experience of space and place. The poignancy of present moments is fleeting, and the resonance of immediate experience fades quickly. This recognition leads Roe to question how particular types of imagery prompt sensations from our past and conjure speculation of our futures. A prolonged preoccupation with the relationship between perception and memory has led her to carefully consider how the time-based mediums of photography, film and video influence and shape our histories.
Roe divides her time between Asheville, North Carolina and Winter Park, Florida where she serves as assistant professor of art at Rollins College. Recent exhibition venues include Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, Oregon, The Naples Museum of Art in Naples, Florida, The Art Academy of Cincinnati, and SE1 Gallery in London. Upcoming exhibitions include Hyper-Real World: Landscape as Commodity at The Museum of Fine Arts at Florida State University in Tallahassee and InLight Richmond, a public art exhibition of citywide outdoor projections sponsored by 1708 Gallery, Richmond, VA. Dawn has received funding for her work from The Associated Colleges of the South/Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and The Society for Photographic Education.
Roe holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Marylhurst University in Portland, Oregon and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.
This exhibition is part of the OMA’s new program, New Work: A Series of Bimonthly Exhibitions of Contemporary Art. This ongoing bimonthly exhibition series features new work by contemporary artists from Florida and around the country, emphasizing work that explores new media, installations and collaborative projects.
