Places, Spaces & Traces:Works from the UCF MFA Thesis Exhibition

Places, Spaces & Traces is an exhibition of photography showcasing the art of Jeanay Fullerton, James Hall, and Sarah Stead, candidates from the Master of Fine Arts program in Studio Art and the Computer at the University of Central Florida (UCF). These emerging artists will be graduating from UCF in May of 2010. Coming from different technical backgrounds, these artists create work that displays three varying perspectives on photography.

Jeanay Fullerton (b. 1977) received her BFA in Photography from Stetson University in 2007. With a traditional film-based background, she depicts abstract and layered imagery in her work that undermines the importance of the “decisive moment,” –a unique, captured moment that is often the basis of much traditional photography.

James Hall (b. 1980) received his BFA in Sculpture from UCF in 2007. In his scenes he compares and contrasts mythologies: from classic Greek lore to contemporary film. His illusory worlds are created using a combination of sculpture and photography.

Sarah Stead (b. 1983) received her BA in Studio Art from Rollins College in 2007. Concentrating in digital photography, Stead uses a methodical approach when creating a photograph. Her current series, entitled Architectural Zen, focuses on beautifying banal structures through artificial light at night.

This exhibition is part of the OMA’s new program, New Work: A Series of Monthly Exhibitions of Contemporary Art. This
ongoing monthly exhibition series features new work by contemporary artists from Florida and around the country, emphasizing work that explores new media, installations and collaborative projects.
