The Acquisition Trust is a group whose purpose is to provide an ongoing source of funding for the purchase of contemporary American art for the OMA. Founded in 1984, and using funds raised from annual membership dues, the group has added 40 works of art to the OMA’s permanent collection.
The Acquisition Trust has an active educational and social program. Membership opens doors to the exciting world of contemporary art by providing opportunities to meet artists, curators, collectors and dealers.
During the year, the Acquisition Trust organizes trips around the country or abroad to visit private collectors in their homes and artists in their studios; hosts artists and art-world luminaries at the OMA and in members’ homes; and encourages local collectors and artists.

Art Acquisitions
Since its founding in 1984, Acquisition Trust members have purchased 40 works of art for the OMA’s permanent collection. Members experience a sense of ownership as they view the OMA’s exhibitions that include works of art they have purchased.
Acquisition Trust membership dues are spent solely on the purchase of art. To achieve its goal of purchasing the best work at the best price, the OMA Curator and members of the Acquisition Trust make their decisions regarding purchases at any time during the year, thus enabling the Acquisition Trust to purchase from a gallery, artist, auction or the secondary market at the most opportune time. Often the artists have been featured in the OMA’s Currents exhibitions, which focus on the work of emerging or mid-career artists. Earnings from the Charles E. Meiner Acquisition Trust Endowment Fund provide another source for acquisition funds.
It is with great pride that members of the Acquisition Trust present a lasting legacy to the OMA.
