JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Public Relations and Marketing Intern

Hours: Flexible

Salary: Academic credit in lieu of compensation

Reports to: Public Relations and Marketing Manager

General Description:
Provide support for the OMA’s Public Relations and Marketing Department in order to meet the Museum’s goals and objectives. The Public Relations and Marketing Intern will be conducting marketing research, tending to public and media relations and implementing promotions for Museum events and exhibitions.

Specific Tasks:

Marketing Materials
1. Record the OMA’s media exposure
2. Respond to donation requests
3. Work with Marketing Manager on any related projects
4. Sort and deliver department mail

OMA Members’ E-News
1. Request and update all editorial content from OMA departments and support groups
2. Assist with proof reading
3. Work with Public Relations and Marketing Manager on layout
4. Maintain archival file of all Members’ E-News

Public Relations
1. Maintain databases for media contacts
2. Assist with press releases, press kits, public service announcements, and electronic media alerts
3. Provide assistance to the media as requested by the Public Relations and Marketing Manager
4. Help to coordinate media previews
5. Submit calendar of events listings to the media via monthly e-mail communications and submit via online forms any and all OMA programming
6. Manage social marketing platforms including Facebook and Twitter

Website
1. Assist Marketing Coordinator in website maintenance
2. Assist with tracking site visitation statistics and complete monthly report
3. Assist with tracking of ticket sales on website

Other
1. Distribute flyers/posters for the OMA’s programs as needed
2. Attend public/social functions to promote the OMA as needed
3. Other duties as may be assigned

Academic and Business Requirements:
Interested candidates must have an interest or background in Marketing or the arts! Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills while exhibiting a high attention to detail. Additionally, candidates must have the ability to take initiative, work independently and work in a deadline sensitive environment. Applicants must have a working knowledge of Email, Internet, Microsoft Word and Excel. Pursuit of a college degree in arts administration, marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or fine arts is a plus!

The Office of Membership and Development

Title: Membership Associate Intern - Summer 2012 term; May-August

Hours per week: 15-20

Application deadline: April 15, 2011
Candidates seeking college credit will be given first priority.

Description:
Join the OMA membership team today! Meet interesting people from around the world and engage in conversations about art, the OMA’s exhibitions and educational programs while helping to market the museum’s membership program. You will learn how a membership program is managed through cultivation and stewardship activities, multi-channel communications and database management.  Intern must have excellent communication and customer service skills, be project and detail oriented, must be a self-starter and maintain a high level of professionalism at all times. Experience with MS Office is a must, while experience with Raiser’s Edge, ProVenue Max and Constant Contact is a plus.

Projects:

  • Assist in membership marketing, including on site acquisition during monthly 1st Thursday events and various educational events.
  • Assist in coordinating community outreach events.
  • Assist in coordinating direct mail and email membership drives.
  • Conduct research for membership and visitor experience initiatives.
  • Learn Raiser’s Edge database through data entry, gift processing and updating donor files.
  • Assist in membership cultivation and retention activities through various communications with the OMA members.
  • Assist in Visitor Information Services management through the OMA’s front desk.
